With the help of Dr. Richard Dawkins, Voice of Russia examines how Americans fare in the public understanding of science and how well they do electing leaders whose policies have a scientific basis.

Jamalia Bey interviews Dr. Richard Dawkins, author of "The God Delusion", on the role of science education in the election:

Dawkins, who calls "half" of America the "most scientific in the world", has harsh words for the other half, who he says "hates knowledge". He believes that much of the American public's misunderstanding of basic scientific facts lies in many strong political powers deliberately promoting scientifically unsound beliefs. The problem is compounded, he continues, by the fact that almost everyone involved in American politics believes that they need to pretend to be religious in order to be elected.

Dawkins also says this of Romney's Mormon beliefs: "However much people admire Romney's tax policy or foreign policy or whatever it is, you can't get away from the fact that he privately believes things which no rational person could possibly hold."
