WASHINGTON – Just three weeks after the deadly mass shootings in Newtown, Conn., lawmakers introduced 10 different pieces of gun legislation in the House on Thursday, giving hope to gun control advocates who have long lost legislative battles due to overwhelming opposition by the National Rifle Association.

Of the 10 proposed laws, four came from Carolyn McCarthy. The New York democrat introduced bills to ban high-capacity ammunition, close gun show loopholes, create a database of people who cannot buy guns and regulate where and how ammunition is purchased. Another Democrat, Jim Moran, reintroduced a bill to require background checks.

Host Rob Sachs spoke with Jamila Bey, host of the Sex Politics and Religion Hour: SPAR with Jamila, to discuss the legislation.
